New School Term full re-opening January 5th 2021
January 1st 2021: Happy New Year to you all, and let's hope for something that is a bit more familiar and hopeful going forward. We wish you and your family well as we approach the new term.
Full re-opening to all year groups on Tuesday January 5th 2021 -
You will be aware from the news that the Government announced the phased return of Secondary aged pupils and Sixth Formers in schools and colleges, except for children of critical workers and those with EHCPs, or additional vulnerabilities. Whilst we have the discretion to phase back, I am keen that all families should send their children back on Tuesday January 5th as planned and this is what myself and the senior team are preparing for.
There are a number of reasons for this: we value attendance and for most of our children the staffing support they require to do well, means that their best offer is here at school; we know that you need a break from your caring responsibilities and school provides that and so much more, many of the children and young people experienced disruption during the second half of the Autumn term due to bubble closures and staffing shortages and although this was out of our control we are keen to secure the best possible attendance we can from Tuesday whilst we can do so. Like you we are keen to return to something as near to normal as possible and whilst we will continue to be very careful in terms of safety and keeping consistent bubbles we will be in full swing in terms of curriculum and classes from Tuesday onwards. Please note that because of the tier we are in it is possible for all clinically extremely vulnerable children to be at school, unless their clinician advises against their attendance.
Testing: You will also be aware from the news that secondary and sixth form pupils are going to be offered asymptomatic testing as well as their staff. We are working closely with the Local Authority on this from Monday and I will keep you informed about the plans for our school. I don't have any answers yet about whether all tests have to be self-administered, what happens if consent can't be gained nor where the testing will take place. As soon as I have clear answers about this I will be communicating with you.
Symptoms: please continue to be vigilant about your child's wellness and err on the side of caution should your child have any of the three symptoms of Covid 19. Please get them tested and keep them off school until they are well enough to return, or have a negative test result. Please do keep us informed about how your child is and the results of their test. As we have to keep everyone safe at school, including the staff working with your children we won't hesitate to act if your child has a cough, or a temperature and you will be required to take them home immediately. The good news is that test results are coming through quickly and this often means that your child - if negative can rapidly return to the classroom.
Masks: if your child is able to wear a mask and is over the age of 11, we will encourage them to do so in school if they are not in their own classroom. Please do not worry if your child is unable to do so, we will not put masks on children/young people or insist if they are exempt.
Thank you to all of you who gave us a little boost at the end of term, by sending positive messages and were supportive of what we did during the difficult Autumn Term, we appreciated hearing from you and it meant an awful lot to be able to pass this on to the hard working staff. We look forward t seeing your children on Tuesday January 5th 2021.
