Help - Editor Icons
Below are screenshots depicting what each toolbar button does. There are descriptions for the more non-standard icons. If in doubt hover of the button for a tool tip. Full Screen - Use your entire browser screen to edit an article. Click again to get back to the save screen

Auto Recover - Saves versions of your article as you work incase you internet or browser crashes. Click it to load the last version stored
- Copy and Paste - You can copy and Paste text in from anywhere including other websites and Microsoft products (see below for troubleshooting pasted data)

Insert Template - Create and insert a predefined content such as a table, instructions or a form.
- Hyperlink - Create a link to another website or a page on this website
- Styles - Highlight text and set it as certain styles. Works in a similar way as Styles in Microsoft Word however the styles are defined by the website itself. Help the website look more consistent. the most important styles are paragraph (default for normal text) and Headings.
- Remove Formatting - you can copy and Paste text in from anywhere including other websites and Microsoft products. Use this tool to remove any formatting that is not appropriate on the Hambleton Website.
- Clean Code - Sometimes when copying and pasting incorrect code sneaks onto your article causing odd effects. Use this icon to clean up as much as possible !

You can add a file to an article as follows :
Hints & Tips
- To make your file web friendly convert it to a pdf (adobe document)
- Does this need to be a downloadable file or can it be copied into a web article for faster browsing ?
- Good housekeeping is deleting images no longer in use.
- Create the file you want to upload and save it with a meaning ful name : lower case text and no spaces (use underscores instead)
- Place the cursor where you want the file to appear in your article, alternately create some text that can be used as the link and select it. (for example "click here to download)
- Click the File Manager Extended Icon (see toolbar guide)
- From the left hand side folders list select a logical folder (ie your department) to store / select a file in. At the moment there are not many folders available due to redevelopment! - In the middle colum select the file you want if it is already uploaded. If not click the Upload File button
- Use the upload tool to upload one or multiple files from your PC or Network
- Once uploaded simply select the file you want from the middle list. The URL and details box should become populated with your choice.
- Click Insert to add the file link to your article.
Help - Add Or Edit An Article On The Website
Introduction
The website is built in a CMS (Content Management System) called Joomla. Joomla uses a content editor called JCE (Joomla Content Editor) (see below for instructions on editing the website)
Editing an Article on the Website
Simply click the yellow pencil icon to begin editing the content area. See Help - Editor toolbar for information on how to use JCE
Adding a New Article to the website
An article is a new webpage that will appear in a certain area on the website.
- Click Submit Article from the User Menu located on the left hand side of the website
- Fill in the Editor fields as follows :
- Title - This will appear as the main title when someone views your article.

Alias - Leave this blank as it will be populated automatically

Content - Use the main white box with the editing toolbar to create your contnet. See further down for information on all the icons.
- Fill in the Publishing fields as follows :

Category - This defines where your article will appear on the website. As the site is redeveloped the category will begin to reflect the menu strucutre - articles will automatically appear under the relative menu. Please ensure you select a catagory as follows : - Hambleton Content - suitable category (please contact This email address is being protected from spambots. Authors Alias - Leave this blank as it will be populated automatically
- Featured - In Development so leave it for now !

Status - Adjsut this to suit your needs :
- Published will make it available to the public
- Unpublished will make it available ONLY to Hambleton Web Editors
- Archived will make it unavailable on the website until the arhive is cleared once every few months
- Trashed will delte the article completley - Remember to delete unwanted articles for good housekeeping and a fast website

Start and Finish Publishing will make an article appear for a specific period of time beofre it is then unpulbished and removed from public view.

Access - defines who can see the article. Public will make the article publically availabe (ie you dont need to login to see it) Registered will make it available only to web editors even when published.

- Metadata makes your article more searchable both in Google and the website itself. The better the description and keywords the higher chance it will be found in search results. Make this information short and to the point.
